What is BATS?

 

BATS! is a fully improvised and interactive musical dream interpretation. BATS! is a long form interactive song experience. BATS! play with polyrythym, automatic freestyle poetry and vocals, orchestral instrumentation and unconventional looping of found objects. BATS! engages audience to interpret their dreams as an automatic musical experience.

Bats is a new collaboration of 3 Winnipeg based experimental artists:

A Raven Called Crow

is the Music Nomiker of Winnipeg based experimental artist Charlie Rae Walker.  She creates mesmerizing live music  happenings which engage audiences in intimate and unexpected ways. Live improvised Harp / banjo  loop pedal dream interpretation, turning the audience into an experimental choir. She has been known to improvise whole albums with small orchestras, incorporate experimental  mask and  performance art and create found object loop pedal sound scapes . Charlie is also a prolific visual artist and runs her own gallery/ home based music venue  in the West End  of Winnipeg called 'The Secret Gallery'.

GAGE SALNIKOWSKI

Multi-instrumentalist Gage Salnikowski plays over 50 different instruments, and has used his skills as performer, composer, educator, and multidisciplinary artist, to produce and perform a wide variety of material. From experimental orchestral and jazz, to ambient pop, indy rock, neo-soul, and technical metal, Salnikowski has equal experience performing the avant-garde in art galleries and concerts halls as he does touring with local acts. 

Notably, Gage's work has been featured on CBC television, CBC radio, City TV, and CKUW for recording classical symphonies as a one man orchestra, playing every instrument himself.

Hovanessian

is a drummer and multi-instrumentalist and multidisciplinary visual artist originating from Vancouver, BC, now residing in Winnipeg, Manitoba. His works span photography, filmmaking, and drums and percussion in a variety of musical settings.
